The original Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, originally created by Dan Dydeck at Silicon Knights, was a top-down hardcore adventure-RPG released in 1996. Three years later, Crystal Dynamics developed the sequel, Soul Reaver, a third-person action-adventure game starring new character Raziel. In the following four years, both games received sequels following their respective characters of Kain and Raziel, culminating in Legacy of Kain: Defiance which brought the two stories together into one game. All told, the cult-classic series sold over 3.7 million copies by 2007.

The results of the Legacy of Kain fan survey came in and Phil Rogers, CEO of the Embracer Group operating division that oversees Crystal Dynamics, was blown away by the results. According to Rogers, surveys usually get between 1,000 and 3,000 responses. The Legacy of Kain survey garnered over 100,000 responses with 73,000 gamers completing the entire survey.

Embracer Group management saw how gamers shared the fan survey across social media and were greatly impressed by the passion of the community. While there is no news now, Rogers did say that fans will be updated on the future possibilities for the Legacy of Kain franchise in time. Now that Square Enix sold the IP rights to Embracer Group, Crystal Dynamics has one of its oldest franchises back under its control for the foreseeable future.

Even fans of the franchise may not realize a connection the Legacy of Kain has with modern gaming; Amy Hennig, the famed Uncharted director, started working on the series with the second game, which she also wrote. As it stands today, gamers were excited with the survey acknowledging the existence of the Legacy of Kain IP for the first time in nearly 20 years. Embracer Group acknowledging the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community has given fans hope that finally, after three whole console generations have passed, they might be able to return to Nosgoth.
