According to Musk, the couple still love each other and see each other frequently, but their careers are coming between them. Elon Musk’s work for SpaceX requires him to spend a lot of time in Texas or traveling overseas, while Grimes’ work primarily requires her to be in Los Angeles. Musk and Grimes first revealed that they were dating back in May 2018, and their son was born in May 2020.

The pair appear to have split on amicable terms, assuming that this semi-separation qualifies as a true break-up. Apparently, Musk and Grimes were last seen together at the Met Gala earlier in September, where Grimes walked the red carpet alone and was joined by Musk inside. Since then, Musk has been spotted attending at least one party alone. This isn’t the first time Musk has appeared alone, as Elon Musk previously appeared solo on SNL for a sketch.
Musk is known for his involvement in a variety of companies, from the American aerospace manufacturer, space transportation services, and communications company SpaceX to the neurotechnology company Neuralink that recently allowed a monkey to play Pong with its mind. He has also gained attention for his proposal to colonize Mars by 2026. Apparently, Musk wants to see humanity become a multiplanet species to help mitigate the risk of humanity’s extinction if a catastrophe takes place on earth. Grimes is currently working as a judge for the new Fox show Alter Ego, which is currently filming.
As of writing, fans of Musk and Grimes appear to be shaken by this turn of events. Two Twitter users questioned what hope they had for relationships if all of Elon Musk’s money couldn’t keep him and Grimes from separating. Another user joked that some men would rather colonize Mars than attend couples’ therapy, despite the fact that fans may have more information on that time Xbox asked Musk to make a real-life Halo Warthog than on the specifics of Musk and Grimes’ separation.
Another user noted that couples with busy jobs that force them to spend a lot of time apart often end up separating, so Musk and Grimes’ break-up may not be that much of a surprise. One response to this observation theorizes that the break-up actually has something to do with Elon Musk’s recent lean to the political right.
